Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) |
The Previous SystemYork County’s 911 center previously used a manual system to record and dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) first responders.
The center averages approximately 480,000 combined (incoming and dispatched) police, fire, and EMS calls yearly.

York County’s 911 center previously utilized a manual card system.
The Current SystemTo expedite the call taking process, and allow dispatchers to process and transmit calls to emergency service providers more efficiently and effectively, the 911 center implemented a new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system as part of a multi-phase ESC Project in 2006.
The new system will be cutover to the new Emergency Services Center in late 2007.
York County contracted with New World Systems to design and implement the CAD system.
The new system determines and maps a caller’s location, and quickens the process during initial call taking and dispatching. Once sent to the dispatcher, the system can automatically recommend the appropriate police, fire, or EMS units to respond to the incident. Typical CAD workstation screen |
