Mobile Data Computer Communications |
The York County Mobile Data Computer (MDC) program is a joint venture between the York County 911 Communications Center and local law enforcement agencies.
In addition to these municipal agencies, the MDC program supports and services the York County Sheriffs Department and the York County Detectives in the District Attorney’s Office.
In the fall of 1998 under the sponsorship of the York County Board of Commissioners, the 911 Communications Center negotiated a contract with GTE, now Verizon to develop and install a computer communications system that links police cars to the 911 Communications Center. The system enables the police cars to have direct access to local, state and federal criminal databases. The 911 Communications Center provides the primary components to the system, as well as the overall administrative and maintenance supervision.
The municipal, regional and county departments that use the system contribute a monthly fee (for both cellular airtime and equipment usage) to offset a portion of the overall cost of the system. Most of the funds for the program come from money collected under the authority of PA ACT 78 ($1.25 /monthly telephone) and the monthly contribution from the participating agencies. These funds are deposited into special accounts that were established by the York County Board of Commissioners for payment of the overall system.
ANNOUNCEMENT! The County of York has just signed an agreement with New World Systems to upgrade the current Mobile 6.9 product to the Microsoft based Mobile 8.0 software. Please click here to find out more information. |
